Metal fans rejoice! Atlanta’s own Mastodon have returned with a brand new track, which can be streamed here. Titled “High Road”, the new song sounds like a natural progression from the band’s 2011 release, The Hunter, which saw Mastodon abandon its progressive metal roots in favor of a more rock-oriented approach. The track comes off the group’s newly announced record, Once More Round the Sun, and if it’s any indication of the final product, fans have a lot to look forward to.

With an infectious main riff and even catchier chorus, “High Road” seems like one of the most accessible Mastodon tracks to date, and that’s not a bad thing. While it lacks Brann Dailor’s signature rapid-fire drumming, there are enough traces of old-school Mastodon in there to please longtime fans. This could simply be a radio edit, but any new Mastodon material is good material.

As of now, Once More Round the Sun is set for a fall 2014 release.
